Abstract
This paper provides a short factual background note for Civic Exchange’s 14th Energy Forum: Expanding Hong Kong’s nuclear power base: what are the real issues to consider? It is intended to set the context for the presentations and discussion during the Forum, which was held on 6th October 2010. This note includes a broad overview of the current state of the nuclear power sector in China and Hong Kong. These include the drivers of current and evolving policy, key development and technology milestones, the supply of uranium, and the regulatory and safety framework.
