Abstract
China’s rapid modernization that occurred within the past few decades took it from a poverty-stricken nation to one of middle-income status. Now that China has obtained this current position, the government is left to deal with a diversity of domestic problems that developed countries would face such as corruption, racial and ethnic tensions, economics, demographics, and national identity. In this article, Rose, along with a few scholars, dissect China’s current national identity and what policies it is using to become more developed.
