Abstract
There has been a great trend of attention toward regionalism in East Asia since the Asian Economic crisis. This trend for East Asian economic integration is accelerating through the ASEAN Plus Three process that has taken up various measures to expand and deepen cooperation in the region. Economic integration in East Asia should lead to the reaping of the fruits of liberation while promoting a cohesive response to a new challenge in the global economy. In addition, a gradual and careful strategy should be set up in view of world trends and regionalism, because promoting rapid economic integration may proliferate a negative recognition that regionalism may cause trade conflicts with countries outside the region.
