Kissinger, Henry

Abstract
On January 19, 2011, President Barack Obama and President Hu Jintao issued a joint statement following Hu’s visit to Washington. The two presidents announced their commitment to a  “positive, cooperative, and comprehensive U.S.-China relationship.” Since this announcement, the two nations have gone about building and maintaining this sort of relationship by conducting official visits, restarting military-to-military contact, and institutionalizing exchanges on strategic and economic issues. While this relationship has begun to show high levels of cooperation, it has also begun to breed controversy. In this article, Kissinger examines the contest for supremacy between the US and China as well as future prospects for the US-China relationship.
