Introduction
Interest in regional financial cooperation in East Asia has increased dramatically since the outbreak of the Asian financial crisis in July 1997. East Asian countries are now keener than ever to cooperate with each other to make themselves more resilient and more able to respond quickly and effectively when financial crises threaten to strike again. They have begun work at three levels – national, regional and international – to deal with future financial crises.
