A few nations have tested hypersonic missiles, which travel about five times the speed of sound and provide long-range weaponry that can travel in a short amount of time. While this is a development in national defense, hypersonic missiles pose a potential threat to global security. With already so many different types of missiles and other weaponry in existence, why is there a need for hypersonic missiles? In this article, Nagappa outlines the history of hypersonic missile development and examines whether or not they will be used in modern defense technology.
