Kaplan, Robert D

Abstract
China’s rapid development has left many to ask: how much influence will China have on the world? In this article, Kaplan examines China’s geography and policies and how they have contributed to the growth of the Middle Kingdom. China’ strategic location on the map has allowed for its government to begin to assert its influence in neighboring regions such as Central and Southeast Asia, where China seeks to expand its sphere of influence. In addition to growing its influence in Asia, China has been growing its military and navy. This growth in Chinese power threatens the arguably uni-polar world order where the United States dominates, thus the United States will predictably use its means to prevent China from stealing its spotlight.
