Comparing the West European and East Asian regional experience prima vista does not seem to offer much novelty value. The outcome of such comparative research seems like a foregone conclusion. Yet there remain interesting nuances, and neither is the European experience a linear story to federal success, nor is the East Asian, especially the South East Asian one, a uniform drama of shattered hopes and frustrated ambitions. These experiences—successes as well as shortcomings—remain well worth examining in greater detail. This is done expertly in the volume edited by Bertrand Fort and Douglas Webber.
