Abstract
Relations between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Japan – two of the world’s most dynamic, and simultaneously ascending powers and its second and, by some tabulations, third largest economies, with East Asia’s largest military capabilities – will be an important determinant of the emerging economic and political order in the Asia-Pacific in the twenty-first century.
Historically, bilateral relations between leading powers have been decisive factors in the stability of international political systems.
