Abstract
One may safely contend that Iran’s diplomatic initiatives to reach out to the West, particularly  he US, in order to write a new chapter in its relations with the rest of the world have ramifications far beyond the oil market. An Iran–US rapprochement will not only transform the strategic balance in the Persian Gulf region, but may reshape a larger regional strategic landscape. It is particularly important for India to observe Iran’s role in addressing the uncertainties surrounding developments in Afghanistan post-2014. Renewed US engagement with Iran and the US end game in Afghanistan call for intense strategic analysis by the Indian strategic community, since these developments will provide many opportunities as well as unforeseen challenges for India.
