Abstract
The article discusses the politics and government of Japan, as of January 2010. It focuses on the results of the previous year’s national elections, which resulted in a landslide victory for the Democratic Party of Japan (DJP) and Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. It analyzes the reasons why the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was rejected by the Japanese electorate, and discusses the changes in Japanese government policies which the DJP is likely to prioritize. An analysis of the relationship between Japan and the U.S. in terms of security arrangements is presented, and the probable impact of DJP policies on the Japanese economy is also discussed.
