deluryFormer Ambassador Gregg maintained a deep and lasting relationship with President Kim since, during his time as CIA Station Chief in Seoul, he helped save Kim Dae-jung when Kim was kidnapped in Tokyo in 1973. Gregg also made great efforts to save Kim’s life when he was sentenced to death by the new military government in 1980. Not only that, during the Roh Tae-woo administration, Gregg served as the US Ambassador to Korea, providing much assistance to the Korean government in enhancing inter-Korean relations and advancing foreign diplomacy in the post-Cold War era. Gregg also carried out activities earnestly with President Kim Dae-jung to establish peace on the korean Peninsula. In sum, Gregg played key roles in critical moments in modern Korean history, which deserve attention as important historical records in researching 20th century Korea-ROK-US relations.
