Abstract
With China’s recent rise to power, the U.S. is left with two decisions to make: how to prevent eh PRC from destabilizing East Asia, and how to encourage it to contribute to global governance. While China still exists as a developing country with significant domestic problems, its current status has allowed it to be recognized as an important enough actor to cooperate with in the global community. Under the Obama administration, U.S. relations with China have significantly progressed, but there is still tension that exists between the two global powerhouses. In this article, Christensen examines China’s domestic issues that it faces as well as the future of the U.S.-China alliance.
